  7. Action is a program which performs certain action on file, depending on it's
  8. filetype. Similar programs already exist, but none has all advantages of
  9. Action:

  11. -> Supports FileID.library, recognising 645 filetypes, and even more
  12. additional filetypes could be added.
  13. -> However, such large number of filetypes is no headache for configuring,
  14. because they are aliased into several groups...
  15. -> Unlimited number of actions could be defined. View, Edit and Identify are
  16. included in distribution.
  17. -> Easy to configure with font-sensitive prefs GUI.
  18. -> Filetypes could be forced (f.e. if you want to view html file as text or
  19. picture as hex data).

  21. Benefits of using Action:

  23. -> You can configure every program which requires external viewer only once,
  24. and forget about it. Guide on how to configure ToolManager, DOpus4 and MIME -
  25. compliant programs to use Action is included in Action.guide.
  26. -> If you change program you are using for viewing/editing some filetype, now
  27. you should apply that change in ActionPrefs only, not in every program which
  28. had used it!
  29. -> You don't need to think about viewer/editor names, paths and arguments
  30. when working in Shell.

  33. script in Action archive, which can make neccesary arrangements for you to
  34. test Action, without any permanent changes to your system.
